Current Projects

 

 

FTS is currently working on numerous projects, which range from refurbishment and maintenance works to construction of extensions to existing schools, construction of lift shafts and construction of new schools.  The following are the major projects which are to be ready in the next two years:

 

 

 

      St. Thomas Moore College Primary School, Marsaskala

A new primary school for 400 students is being built at Marsaskala.  This new school will complement the existing school which will remain in operation.  to meet the ever increasing demand in Marsaskala. The new school will complement the existing one which will be kept in operation. The new school will have 24 classrooms plus another 8 rooms dedicated for a childcare centre and a kindergarten. This school will also have a multipurpose hall which will seat 400 people. The school's footprint will be 6,000m2. There will also be a underground car park with a footprint of 2,000m2. This project commenced in the summer of 2017.  Work will continue during the 2017-2018 scholastic year and will be completed in 2018.

 




 

 

       Maria Regina College Primary School, St. Paul's Bay (Qawra)

A new primary school for 500 students is being constructed to meet the ever increasing demand in St. Paul's Bay. The new school will complement the existing one which will be kept in operation. The new school will also house a kindergarten and a childcare centre. The school will have 39 classrooms and a multipurpose hall. The school will also have a futsal ground, 2 badminton courts and an indoor gym. The school's footprint will be 7,000m2. There will also be an underground car park with a footprint of 15,000m2 which translates into 400 parking spaces. This project commenced during the 2017-2018 scholastic year and will be completed in September 2019.

 




 

 

          New laboratories for vocational educational subjects in all Senior Schools

This project involves the setting up of laboratories and workshops for various vocational subjects in all senior schools. In most schools, existing spaces will be converted into these laboratories and workshops, however at the senior schools at Mrieħel and Żejtun, the construction of extensions to the schools are needed. These projects will be done with an investment of €10M.

 

 






 

 

         Gozo College Primary School, Victoria

A new primary school in Victoria, Gozo, to replace the present one which is 160 years old. The new primary school will cater for approximately 400 students and will also house a kindergarten and a childcare centre. Preparations for this project will be completed during the 2017-2018 scholastic year.

 

       Visual & Performing Arts School, Ħamrun

This project involves the complete refurbishment of an existing block in a former secondary school at Ħamrun, which has been recently phased out. The block is being restructured and refurbished to house the first ever Visual & Performing Arts School in Malta. Students at this school will specialise in four spheres of art: drama, music, dancing and media.  In the first phase of the project - the school will cater for approximately 40 students, however it will be extended to cater for more students in the coming years. The first phase of this project was be completed in 2017. The whole project will be completed in 2019.

 

      San Miguel Resource Centre, Żejtun

This project involves the replacement of the San Miguel Primary Education Resource Centre, which at present forms part of St. Claire College. This centre caters for students with multiple disabilities.

 

       Guardian Angel Resource Centre, Ħamrun

Extension and refurbishment of the educational facilities at the Guardian Angel Resource Centre, Ħamrun, for children with intellectual disabilities.

 

       Migrant Learning Unit, Ħamrun (Blata l-Bajda)

This project involves the complete refurbishment of an existing block.  The place will be converted into offices and a community centre for migrant children and their parents.  The Unit will seek to promote the inclusion of migrant children and their parents into the Maltese education system. 

 

       St. Nicholas College Primary School, Rabat

The present Primary School at Rabat operates from two different buildings. This project involves the construction of an extension to one of the school buildings, making it possible for the school to operate from one building. This will enable the Education Division to provide better educational facilities to the students. The school will cater for 400 students.

 

         St. Thomas Moore College Senior School, Sta. Lucija

The project involves the construction of a new multi-purpose hall within St. Thomas Moore College Senior School at Santa Lucija. Preparations for this project are currently underway.

 

         'Education Village', Ħamrun

An 'Education and Sports Village' in the precincts of the former Maria Assunta School in Hamrun is being set up, which currently houses the Johann Strauss School of Music and  the Boys Learning Support Centre. Refurbishment works are currently being carried out to host the offices of the National Commission for General Education, the Council for the Teaching Profession and the Digital Literacy Unit.

 

         Childcare Centre, St. Julian's

A new Childcare Centre will be built within St. Julian's Primary School. The centre will be built in line with national standards, with the health and safety of children given maximum priority. The Childcare Centre will cater for approximately 40 children. 

 

         New multisensory centre at the Marsa Primary School

The Multisensory Centre will be the result of an inter-ministerial collaboration project between the Ministry for Health and the Ministry for Education and Employment. The people who will most benefit from this centre will be the children screened through LENTI as well as other children referred by other entities and offered Sensory Integration (SI) services.  This centre will include interview rooms, play-rooms and specialized SI equipment, such as suspended equipment.  

 

         Sports Facilities in various schools

Enhancement of various sports facilities for the benefit of students and local communities.​
